If you have a Chromecast, use natural language commands to ask your Google Home to play video content on your TV from any supported streaming service. The original Google Home device is essentially a single two-inch speaker and some computer hardware packaged up in a housing that looks something like an air freshener. It has Wi-Fi connectivity built right in, which it uses to access your Wi-Fi network and connect to the internet.

To start the connection, plug in the micro-USB in your Google Home Mini, followed by plugging in a Y-cable into the micro-USB. One part of the Y-cable should be connected to the USB Power Supply. Once the connection is successful, the Google Home app will indicate “Connected.” At this stage, your Google Home Mini is ready for use. However, the connection may not be stable hence not suitable for watching videos.
I can’t pair my Nest Mini with my 1st Gen Home Mini
If connected to the internet is, of course, gets the weather data from the internet, but without it can actually get it from your smartphone as well. Just like with your shopping lists, calendar, and contact information. However, you can use it for something if it is connected to your Wifi but your internet is just down. This means that it’s still connected to all your smart devices in your home.

Use Google Assistant to complete your online food order, automatically filling out your contact and payment details. When you do connect Google Home to the internet, you unlock the functionality of Google Assistant. The way it works is you say "OK Google" or "Hey Google," and then talk to the device almost like you would talk to a person. This is a similar approach to #3, but instead of using Bluetooth, you can make use of Google Cast which is built into the Chrome browser along with the Cast feature within your Google Mini device. Your tablet, laptop and phone will almost certainly offer Bluetooth, and both the Google Mini and Nest Mini offer Bluetooth support.
There's more to this compact smart speaker than meets the eye
If it has been a while since you tried this fix, reboot and reconnect your Nest Mini to make sure any recent updates have taken effect. If the problem continues, you may need to wait for another bug fix from Google. This is an ongoing issue that Google hasn’t seemed to fully patch out yet. Try rebooting via the unplugging method cited above — unplugging the power cord from the Mini itself and waiting for around two minutes before plugging it back in again. If this doesn’t fix the problem, you may want to try a factory data reset and start over to see if this solves the issue.
First, Google warns that other appliances throughout your home can emit ultrasound vibrations that interfere with the Mini’s sensors. Try to move the Mini to an isolated spot, and see if the sensors seem to work better there — it could just be a location issue. Sometimes, Google Assistant needs to be reminded that all your Nest devices are present, especially if you introduce a new device in your home. Try saying, “OK Google, sync my devices,” and see if this helps get everything in order.
My Nest Mini keeps responding even when it’s quiet
Join the other end of the Y-cable to a Female which is then connected to the Ethernet adapter. Once the connection is complete, you will see Ethernet lights up showing that the connection is successful. When using the Google Nest Mini, there is a toggle switch on the bottom of the device to mute the mic. If you’re concerned about a sensitive conversation being recorded, just manually power off the microphone.

You'll be able to try connecting your device through your phone’s hotspot or broadcast. However, it’s a good idea to fine tune the content settings for your kids by enabling parental controls on your smart speaker. The Google Nest Mini can be used as a Bluetooth speaker without a Wi-Fi connection as long as the devices were previously paired while a Wi-Fi connection existed. Once paired, the devices can automatically connect, and you can broadcast audio to your Google Nest Mini. Yes, it’s smart, but a Google Home Mini or Nest Mini can also act as a basic Bluetooth speaker. But they’re also bona fide Bluetooth speakers that let you beam whatever music, podcast or audiobook you want from your phone or tablet.
No, your Google Home or Nest will not work without it connected to Wifi. Google Home is built to run through your network and is built to always be online. "There was a glitch, or Something went wrong, try again in a few seconds." If you have any respect for money do NOT buy any google home device.
It listens for a wake word, which is "Okay, Google," and then records anything it hears after the wake word. That information is passed to the cloud, where Google's powerful servers get to work. Both speakers seem like speakers that would function wirelessly, they are both highly dependant on Wifi. But they don’t have any battery packs included and therefore also dependant on being connected to a power source all the time for them to work.
I forgot, the other thing it is good for is an expensive photo screen. Some smart home devices work natively with Google Home, and others require some kind of hub to act as a bridge. Check out our guide to what works with Google Home for more information. Control your smart home devices, like lights, thermostats, and more. This natural language interface allows you to ask questions like, "What is the weather today?" or make requests like, "Play my morning playlist on Spotify." Google Home will respond appropriately.

The short answer is that you can get limited free music without a paid-for subscription, but this might be interrupted by ads. There are, however, dozens of free radio stations and also ‘white noises’ (e.g. relaxation sounds) available, but this varies per country and you still might get some ads. Something’s gone wrong with your Google Nest Mini and it won’t even turn on? Don’t hate me for stating the obvious, but check the plug.
But I also respect their choice of not overcomplicating the devices. The Google Home Mini, Max, and Nest Hub come at great prices for how good they sound and in general what value they provide. The prices would have been significantly higher if they had to consider including Bluetooth and battery options. It should be noted that your smartphone won’t wake up with the ‘Okay, Google’ command.
Since there's no AUX port, the only way to connect the Mini to a better speaker is through Chromecast, which certainly doesn't work as well as a 3.5mm cable. You can't even Bluetooth out to another speaker, which is odd given you can use the Home Mini as a Bluetooth speaker for your phone or laptop. Since the Google Home Mini has all of the same functionality as the Google Home, it makes a good entry-level smart speaker. With a very affordable price point, you can pick up a Home Mini and try it out to see if you could benefit from having smart speakers in your home without spending a lot of money. For connectivity, the Google Home Mini can connect to both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless networks, supports Chromecast and Chromecast Audio, and accepts audio inputs via Bluetooth 4.1. Google Home Mini is a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant.
